INTOSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing

The INTOSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing - is a Working Group established following an initiative of eight countries during the XIVth INTOSAI Congress, held in Washington in October, 1992. The Group operates under the chairmanship of the Netherlands Court of Audit.

The main goal of the group is:
  •  to support Supreme Audit Institutions in developing understanding of the specific problems connected with environmental auditing;
  •  to facilitate exchange of information and experiences in this field;
  •  to publish methodological guidelines and other information useful for Supreme Audit Institutions (i.a. recommendations in the scope and methods of envioronmental audits).
In 1998, at the XVIth INTOSAI Congress in Montevideo, regional bodies were established within the Group and four regional coordinators were appointed: in Europe (Poland), in Africa (the Republic of South Africa), in South America (Peru) and in Asia (the Republic of Korea). The regionalisation was prompted by the need to adapt the Group's strategy to the specific nature of the different regions of the world.

The Working Group on Environmental Protection is the largest Working Group within INTOSAI.
