INTOSAI - is a world organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions of the
member countries of the United Nations. INTOSAI was established in 1953
by 34 countries. At present it has 170 members. The main goal of
INTOSAI is to exchange information and experiences in the field of
government audits as well as to evaluate the tasks of Supreme Audit
Institutions in the light of independent social and economic changes
taking place in the world. INTOSAI publishes guides, organises training
courses, promotes exchange of information and experiences between its
members. INTOSAI's official languages are: Arabic, English, French,
German and Italian. INTOSAI's Supreme Authority is the Congress
(general meeting of the presidents of the member SAIs). Seven regional
groups function within the organisation:
OLACEFS - Organization of Latin America and the Caribbean Supreme Audit Institutions; AFROSAI - African Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions; ARABOSAI - Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions; ASOSAI - Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions; SPASAI - South Pacific of Supreme Audit Institutions; CAROSAI - Caribbean Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions; EUROSAI - European of Supreme Audit Institutions.
Most of the work of INTOSAI is done by its Committees and Working
Groups. One of them is the INTOSAI Working Group on Environmental
Auditing.
